As surfing continues to grow in Scotland, so too does the support available to our athletes.
Scottish Surfing is delighted to be working with Nomad Physiotherapy, bringing high-performance physiotherapy expertise into our junior development programme to help young surfers stay healthy, perform at their best and build strong foundations for the future.
Founded by physiotherapist Eilidh Rutherford, Nomad Physiotherapy was created with a simple vision: to make the same level of support found in elite sport accessible to athletes at every level. After spending seven years working in professional sport, including with Scotland Women’s Rugby Team at the Rugby World Cup and on the Ladies European Tour, she established her own clinic in Leith, combining physiotherapy with a fully equipped rehabilitation and performance space.
That experience is now benefiting Scottish surfers.
At our recent Junior Development Camp, Nomad Physiotherapy delivered practical support to athletes, introducing a consistent surf-specific warm-up routine and leading an interactive workshop exploring how strength training can improve paddling power, injury resilience and overall surf performance.

Surfing is a uniquely demanding sport. From powerful paddling and explosive pop-ups to balance, mobility and endurance, athletes place significant demands on their bodies every time they enter the water. Developing good habits away from the beach is just as important as time spent catching waves.
By working with practitioners who understand the physical demands of surfing, Scottish Surfing is helping athletes develop the knowledge and tools they need to train smarter, reduce injury risk and perform with confidence.
We’re excited to continue working with Nomad Physiotherapy as part of our athlete development programme and look forward to supporting even more surfers on their journey both in and out of the water.
