Scottish Surfing’s ‘Catch the Wave’ programme is getting more people into the water this summer, thanks to funding from sportscotland’s Summer of Sport campaign.
Our Catch the Wave programme is providing funding to surf clubs throughout Scotland to deliver free surf sessions, giving young people the opportunity to try surfing and discover how they can get involved in the sport across Scotland.
The programme launched during the Commonwealth Games period at Lost Shore Surf Resort in Ratho, where 156 children were given the opportunity to enjoy a free surf lesson and lunch across two days on 26 July and 2 August, followed by our first club programme at Belhaven Surf Club on 16 August in Dunbar with a fantastic funday, including free surf lessons delivered by Coast 2 Coast Surf School.
The programme is only just getting started.
Through Catch the Wave, Scottish Surfing plans to give hundreds more people aged between 5 and 24 the opportunity to try surfing completely free of charge this year thanks to funding made available by the Scottish Government and sportscotland for Scotland’s ‘Summer of Sport’.
Funding is being distributed to Scottish Surfing affiliated surf clubs across the country, helping clubs create opportunities for new participants in their own communities.

“We are delighted at to be able to give kids the opportunity to try surfing for free this summer through this fantastic initiative from Scottish Surfing and get them involved in surfing at their local club, supported by our local surf school.”
Scottish Surfing has affiliated regional surf clubs across the country delivering Catch the Wave sessions in partnership with Scottish Surfing accredited surf schools in their local area.
By removing the cost of a first session, Catch the Wave aims to make surfing more accessible and give more children, young people and communities the chance to experience the sport for themselves.
