An EPIC weekend was had at Fraserburgh beach Scottish Junior Series surf event run by Broch Surf Club and Scottish Surfing on 17 and 18 October 2026.
Saturday morning we were blessed with some of the best surf conditions in recent memory for a junior surf event, much to the delight of all the junior surfers whom had travelled from all over Scotland (& the isles) to compete.

The long period north groundswell and light offshore winds in glorious sunshine made for the perfect canvas for the young athletes to show their skills.
Competitors and organisers assembled on the main beach promenade and event setup was slick and efficient down to the support from @scottish_surfing judges, media, marshals, lifeguards and team. What a crew
The event kicked off with a bang with the U18 boys followed by the U18 girls with long overhead punchy left handers running down low tide ‘superbank’.
Joel Christopherson from Belhaven Surf Club taking the eventual win in the U18 boys and local Broch girl Callie Cruickshank taking the win in the U18 Girls.

Surfing continued throughout the day running through U18, U14, U12 and finishing off with U10 on the higher tide.
The U14 girls was hotly contested with some excellent surfing all round. Scarlett Heddle from North Shore Surf Club Thurso, taking the win.

Broch surfer Kai Cruickshank showed surfing well beyond his years with high level surfing mixing it up with barrel rides and powerful turns to take the U14 boys title.

Tide pushing, the waves softened up slightly making perfect conditions for the younger competitors, with the U12 surfers up 1st.
Local surfer Asher Noble, following in his brothers footsteps, eventually taking the win with some great surfing from the youngster.

Saving the best for last, the U10 is always the most supported and celebrated category at the junior events.

Being in the North Sea battling for waves un-aided u10 takes courage, determination and strength, but the young competitors did amazingly well.
Every wave ridden was cheered and celebrated by the parents, families and supporters on the sand.
Holly Hadden taking the eventual win – her green set wave ridden to the sand making the difference.
