The home of one of the world’s most advanced surfing wave pools opens on 11 November 2024.

Scotland’s leisure and tourism industry is making waves as Lost Shore Surf Resort, the nation’s first inland surf destination, officially opens its doors on 11 November 2024.

Located in Ratho, near Edinburgh, this game-changing £60m attraction boasts Europe’s largest and most advanced wave pool, positioning Scotland as a new global hub for adventure tourism.

Set within extensive grounds, Lost Shore Surf Resort offers a range of amenities including luxury accommodation, a waterfront bar, café, restaurant, surf school, surf shop, The Surfskate Academy, Spear Sauna, and wellness treatments.

I can’t wait to see more people realise the mental and physical benefits of surfing. Who knows—this could be the training ground for Scotland’s next Olympic surfing champion.”

“Lost Shore Surf Resort delivers a truly world-class venue for Scottish surfers and supports our mission to positively impact lives through the sport of surfing. The ability to surf consistently on customisable waves, regardless of the weather or season, is a game-changer.

Not only will this facility support our Scottish athletes excel on a world stage, but it will also open up the sport to a much wider audience, safely encouraging more people to give it a try and experience all the mental and physical benefits that surfing can bring.”

The SSF have been working closely with the Lost Shore Surf Resort to provide additional benefits to SSF members, which are detailed below.

Scottish Surfing Membership Review

In anticipation of the opening of Lost Shore Surf Resort, the SSF have been reviewing their membership categories to provide even more benefits to members.

The current membership options with the SSF have not changed in some years, which includes an adult membership option of £15 per annum, and a junior membership option of £10 per annum.

These membership rates are one of the lowest across Scottish governing bodies of sport and provide members with a range of fantastic membership benefits and discounts with our affiliated surf schools and businesses.

The opening of the Lost Shore Surf Resort provides a huge opportunity for the development of Scottish surfing, and we wanted to ensure that members can take full advantage of the fantastic partnership that exists between the SSF and Lost Shore Surf Resort.

As such, SSF members can now access a Lost Shore Surf Resort ‘bolt on’ to their membership that provides SSF members with a phenomenal 20% discount of surf sessions at Lost Shore Surf Resort. In addition, SSF membership with the Lost Shore Surf Resort bolt on provides a further discount of 20% of accommodation and food and drink in the café area.

As a registered charity in Scotland, the SSF is also involved in a number of charitable activities to positively impact lives through the sport of surfing. However, until now, there has not been an easy way to support the SSF charitable activities.

This has changed with the introduction of the Charitable Membership category, providing an option for the wider surfing community to support the SSF’s charitable activities.

Full terms and conditions for all memberships can be found on the JustGo membership system.

Mark Boyd, Scottish Surfing Sport Operations Manager, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Lost Shore Surf Resort to provide an amazing discount to SSF members with our Lost Shore Surf Resort bolt-on. The resort will offer a step-change for the sport of surfing in Scotland and we want our members to be first in line for all the fantastic opportunities that Lost Shore will bring.

In addition, the launch of our Charitable Membership and charitable donation options will enable the SSF to deliver even more benefits for the wider surfing community across all our charitable activities including advancing education, promotion of water safety and quality, improving facilities, reducing health inequalities and barriers to participation. “
